Connect Claude to your Shayr data
In Claude, add Shayr as a custom connector with the address https://mcp.shayrapp.com/mcp, sign in with your Shayr email and tap Allow. Claude can then read your net worth, transactions, budgets, goals and spending patterns. It can never change anything.
The Claude connector is a GOAT and free trial feature. On Bussin, the Allow step is refused with a message to upgrade. See If your plan changes.
Steps
You need a Claude account and a Shayr account with at least one linked account. Your plan, or your household's highest, must be GOAT or the free trial.
On claude.ai, open Customize, then Connectors. Click + Add and choose Add custom connector.
Name it Shayr and paste
https://mcp.shayrapp.com/mcp. Click Connect.A Shayr sign in page opens. Use the same email you use in the Shayr app.
Read what Claude is asking for and click Allow. You land back in Claude with Shayr showing as connected.
Start a chat and ask about your money. Claude may ask permission before it uses a Shayr tool.
What Claude can read
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
| Get Net Worth | Net worth, assets, liabilities and trend for a range (month, quarter or year to date). |
| List Transactions | Up to 100 transactions, with merchant, amount, date and category, filtered by date, category or search text. |
| Get Budgets | Budget, spent, remaining and percent used for each category in a month. |
| Get Savings Goals | Target, progress and target date for each goal. |
| Get Spending Patterns | Weekday and payday patterns, time of day, city level places, payment methods, regular and new merchants, price creep and the biggest shifts. See Spending patterns. |
All five are read only. There is no tool that creates, edits or deletes anything, and Claude never gets your bank login, your Shayr sign in or full account numbers. Each tool returns your whole household's data if you are in one.
Shayr sends Claude the data it asks for, and Anthropic handles your conversation under its own terms. The Allow page lists net worth, transactions, budgets and goals. It does not yet mention spending patterns.
Things to try
Ask in plain words. Some good first questions:
- What is my net worth, and how has it changed this year?
- What did I spend the most on last month?
- Am I over budget on anything this month?
- How close am I to my savings goals?
- Show my last 10 transactions at Amazon.
For longer, step by step reviews, use the Claude prompt pack: a monthly money date, a tax prep sweep, a breakdown of where the month went, a subscription audit and a goals check.
How access works
- The only permission is read access. The sign in uses OAuth with PKCE, a standard way of connecting apps without sharing your password.
- Access tokens last 1 hour and renew in the background. A connection stays active for up to 180 days of use.
- If someone leaves your household, the connector's view shrinks right away.
If your plan changes
Claude can read your data only while the plan that covers you is GOAT or the free trial. If it drops to Bussin or the plan ends, Claude is refused on its next request and the connector stops answering. Connecting again is refused until you are back on GOAT. Your connections stay listed in Connected Apps, and Disconnect always works.
Disconnect
Open Connected Apps in Shayr and tap Disconnect on the connection. It stops working immediately. See Connected Apps and the access log.
Removing Shayr under Customize and Connectors in Claude stops new requests, but tapping Disconnect in Shayr is what revokes the access right away.
Claude Desktop with a local setup
If you run the local Shayr server in Claude Desktop instead, open Settings, then Connected Apps in Shayr and tap Generate new token under Claude Desktop token. This creates a personal access token for the Shayr MCP server. It is read only like the connector, and like the connector it needs GOAT or the free trial. Shayr shows the token once, so copy it straight away. Details are in Connected Apps and the access log.
