Add an expense by hand
Tap Add in the toolbar on Spend, fill in the amount and what it was for, and tap Save. Use it for cash, or for anything your bank missed. The entry counts in your budgets, Insights and Wrapped like any other transaction.
Steps
Open Spend and tap Add in the toolbar at the top. On iPad it sits beside Filters. The Add an expense sheet opens.
Choose Expense or Income at the top. Use Income for money in, such as a cash gift.
Type the Amount and What was it for.
Pick a Category from the row of choices, or open the full list and search it.
Check the Account. It starts as Cash, an account Shayr makes for things you add yourself. You can pick a checking, savings or credit account of your household instead.
Check the Date. It starts as today and cannot be after today. Add a Note if you like.
Tap Save. Shayr says Added. It is in your spending now. The list, your budgets and Home update on their own.
What an entry changes
- It shows in Spend with a small Added by hand tag.
- It counts in budgets, Insights, Spending patterns, Wrapped, Money Date and your CSV export. It moves the cash flow forecast only when it is on a checking or savings account.
- It never changes a balance. A Cash balance stays what you typed. A bank balance comes from the bank.
- Everyone in your household sees it. Any member can add an entry. You can edit or remove an entry you added, and the household owner can edit or remove any of them.
- It works on every plan. A household can hold up to 5,000 entries added by hand.
Edit or remove an entry
Tap the entry, then tap Edit entry. The same sheet opens filled in. Change what you need and tap Save, or tap Remove. Pressing and holding an entry opens the same edit sheet. You can edit only entries you added by hand. A bank transaction cannot be edited, but you can add a note to it or change its category.
When it looks like a bank transaction
If you add something and Shayr already has a bank transaction that looks like it, the sheet asks Add it anyway?. If the bank transaction arrives later, the entry shows Looks like a bank transaction with two buttons. Merge removes your entry, keeps the bank transaction and moves your note onto it. Keep both leaves them as they are. Shayr never merges or removes anything by itself, and until you answer, both count.
Add a note to any transaction
Open any transaction, bank transactions included, and tap Add a note, or Edit note if it has one. A note can be up to 200 characters. Only your household can see notes. Notes appear in your CSV export. Connected assistants never see them.
Count it as shared
In a household of two, a transaction's details have a Count this as shared switch. It does the same as choosing Together under Whose swipe.
