How can we help?

Answers to the questions we get most, plus a walkthrough for connecting Claude to your Shayr data. If you don't find what you need, email me. I read everything that comes in.

Getting started

What is Shayr?

Shayr is a money app for you and your family. It pulls your bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts into one place, so you can see your net worth, spending, budgets, bills and goals together.

How do I sign in?

There's no password. Type your email and we'll send you a sign-in link, or use Apple or Google. Nothing to remember and nothing to reset.

Where can I use Shayr?

On iPhone, from the App Store. You can also sign in on the web at app.shayrapp.com with the same account.

Linking accounts

How does Shayr connect to my bank?

Through Plaid. You log in to your bank inside Plaid's window, so Shayr never sees or stores your bank username or password.

An account says it needs to be reconnected.

Banks sometimes ask you to log in again. When that happens we'll send you an alert. Tap it (or open Accounts) and follow the prompts. Your history stays put.

My balances or transactions look out of date.

Pull down on the home screen to refresh. New transactions usually show up within a few minutes of your bank posting them. If one account still looks stale, reconnect it from Accounts. If that doesn't fix it, email me.

Can I add an account that won't link?

Yes. Add a custom account and update the balance yourself. It works well for a house, a car, or a bank that Plaid doesn't support.

Is my data safe?

Sensitive fields are encrypted, everything travels over HTTPS, and bank access goes through Plaid. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

Family and invites

How do I invite my partner or a family member?

Tap your profile picture (top right), then Family, then Add Family Member. Enter their name, email and how you're related. They'll get an email with a link to join, and a notification too if they already have the app.

They haven't accepted. How do I resend the invite?

Open Family and tap the person marked Pending. On their profile, tap Resend invite. If it still doesn't show up for them, ask them to check spam, and double-check the email address you typed.

What can family members see?

Once someone accepts, the accounts they link show up in your shared family view. Everyone keeps their own login. You can remove a member any time from their profile.

I got an invite. How do I accept or decline?

Tap the link in the invite email, or open Shayr and sign in with the email the invite was sent to. You'll see a prompt on the home screen with Accept and Decline. Whoever invited you gets notified either way.

Alerts

What alerts does Shayr send?

Large transactions, budget warnings, price changes on recurring charges, possible duplicate charges, goal milestones, accounts that need reconnecting, and family invite updates.

How do I turn alerts off or pause them?

Go to Settings. You can switch each alert type on or off, or pause everything at once. Also check that notifications are allowed for Shayr in your iPhone's own Settings.

Plans and billing

What plans are there?

New accounts start with a free trial. The paid plans, Bussin and GOAT, give you a bigger Shayr AI allowance, and GOAT lets you use your own AI key. Current prices are in the app under Manage Subscription.

How do I cancel or restore a purchase?

Apple handles billing. To cancel, open your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. To restore a purchase on a new phone, tap Restore under Manage Subscription.

Shayr AI

What can I ask it?

Questions about your own money. For example: "How much did I spend on dining last month?", "Am I on track for my savings goal?" or "Which subscriptions got more expensive?" It answers from your linked accounts and won't help with unrelated stuff.

Can I use my own AI provider?

On the GOAT plan, yes. Go to Settings, then AI Settings, and add your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google key, or point it at a local Ollama server. Your key stays on your device and is only sent with your own requests.

Is this financial advice?

No. Shayr AI explains your own data, and it can get things wrong. Check important numbers in the app, and talk to a qualified professional before making financial, tax or legal decisions.

Connect Shayr to Claude

Ask Claude about your own Shayr numbers, like your net worth or what you spent last month. It's optional, it only reads (it can't change anything), and you choose when to turn it on.

What Claude can look at

ToolWhat it gives Claude
Get Net WorthYour net worth, total assets and liabilities, and how they've changed over time
List TransactionsRecent transactions with merchant, amount, date and category. Can be narrowed by date, category or search text
Get BudgetsYour budgets and how much you've spent against each one for a month
Get Savings GoalsEach goal with its target amount, progress and target date

That's all of it. Claude can't create, edit or delete anything in Shayr, and it can't move money. It never gets your bank login, your Shayr sign-in, or full account numbers.

Set it up

You need a Claude account (claude.ai) and a Shayr account with at least one linked account.

  1. On claude.ai, open Customize, then Connectors. Click + Add and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Shayr and paste in this address: https://shayrapp-be.vercel.app/mcp
  3. Click Connect. A Shayr sign-in page opens. Use the same email you use in the Shayr app.
  4. Read what Claude is asking for and click Allow. You'll land back in Claude with Shayr showing as connected.
  5. Start a chat and ask about your money. Claude may ask permission before it uses a Shayr tool.

Things to try

What's my net worth, and how has it changed this year?
What did I spend the most on last month?
Am I over budget on anything this month?
How close am I to my savings goals?

Prompt pack

Ready-made prompts for the things people ask most. Open one, copy it, and paste it into a Claude chat that has the Shayr connector turned on. Each one asks Claude to call all four Shayr tools. The same prompts are in the Shayr app under Settings, then Connected Apps.

Monthly money date

A five step review for a couple, one step at a time.

Use the Shayr connector to run our monthly money date. My partner and I will go through it together. Call all four Shayr tools: Get Net Worth, List Transactions, Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals. For List Transactions, look at this month and last month. For Get Budgets, use this month. Then walk us through five steps, one at a time, and wait for our reply before moving on. Step 1, the big picture: our net worth now and how it changed since last month. Step 2, where the money went: our top five spending categories and anything that looks unusual. Step 3, budgets: which ones we are over or close to, and which have room left. Step 4, goals: how each savings goal is doing, and what we would need to save each month to reach its target date. Step 5, next steps: suggest up to three small actions for next month and ask each of us to keep, change or skip them. Keep it friendly and plain. Only use numbers that come from Shayr, and tell us if something is missing.
Tax prep sweep

Find the transactions worth a second look before tax time.

Use the Shayr connector to do a tax prep sweep for last year. Call all four Shayr tools: Get Net Worth, List Transactions, Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals. For List Transactions, cover January 1 to December 31 of last year. Make as many calls as you need to see all of it. Group anything that could matter at tax time: charity, medical, childcare, home office, education, business costs, mortgage interest, and state and local taxes. For each group, show the merchant, date and amount, and a total. Also list large one-off payments and any income that is not a regular paycheck. Use Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals to point out retirement, HSA or 529 saving I may want to mention to a tax professional. If you are not sure about an item, label it "check this" and do not guess. You are not giving tax advice, so end with a short list of questions I should bring to a tax professional.
Where did our money go this month

A plain breakdown of this month, with the surprises called out.

Use the Shayr connector to tell us where our money went this month. Call all four Shayr tools: Get Net Worth, List Transactions, Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals. For List Transactions, use the first of this month until today, and also last month so you can compare. Show spending by category, biggest first, with how each one compares to last month. Call out the five largest single purchases and any merchant we paid more than three times. Use Get Budgets to say which categories are over or under budget. Use Get Net Worth to say whether our net worth went up or down this month. Use Get Savings Goals to say whether this month moved us closer to our goals. Finish with two or three things that stand out, in plain words.
Subscription audit

Spot repeat charges you may have forgotten about.

Use the Shayr connector to audit our subscriptions and repeat charges. Call all four Shayr tools: Get Net Worth, List Transactions, Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals. For List Transactions, look at the last six months and make as many calls as you need. Find charges that repeat on a regular schedule, like monthly or yearly. For each one, show the merchant, the amount, how often it is charged, and the last charge date. Flag any that went up in price, any that look like duplicates, and any that are not part of our budgets. Total them as a monthly cost and a yearly cost. Use Get Budgets to see where these fit, Get Net Worth for the bigger picture, and Get Savings Goals to show what the yearly total could do for our goals if we cancelled some. Then ask me which ones I still use. Do not tell me to cancel anything yourself.
Are we on track for our goals

Check each savings goal against what we actually save.

Use the Shayr connector to check whether we are on track for our savings goals. Call all four Shayr tools: Get Net Worth, List Transactions, Get Budgets and Get Savings Goals. For Get Savings Goals, go through each goal: target amount, saved so far and target date. For List Transactions, look at the last three months to see what we really set aside and spend. Use Get Budgets to see how much room we have each month, and Get Net Worth to see the trend. For each goal, say if we are ahead, on track or behind, and how much we would need to save each month to reach the target date. If we are behind, suggest two realistic ways to catch up, such as a budget category to trim or a date to move. Keep it short and plain, and only use numbers from Shayr.

Disconnect

Remove Shayr from Customize and Connectors in Claude and it can't ask for new data. If you want the access cut off right away, email privacy@shayrapp.com and I'll do it for you.

If something's off

The sign-in page says it can't find a Shayr account.

Use the exact email you sign in with in the Shayr app. If you signed up with Apple's Hide My Email, use that relay address instead, or write to me and I'll sort it out.

Claude says the connector needs to reconnect.

Access normally renews on its own. If it ran out, or you revoked it, click Connect again on the Shayr connector in Claude's connector settings.

Claude comes back with nothing.

Check that the data shows up in the Shayr app first. Budgets and goals are empty until you create them, and a newly linked account can take a few minutes to finish its first sync.

Who sees my data when I use this?

Shayr sends Claude the data it asks for, and Anthropic handles your conversation under its own terms and privacy policy. We explain the Shayr side in Connected AI Assistants in our Privacy Policy.

Using Claude Desktop with a local setup instead? In the Shayr app, go to Settings, then Connected Apps, to create a personal access token for the Shayr MCP server.

Privacy and your data

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings and tap Delete My Account. That removes your account and the data tied to it, and disconnects your bank links. You can also email privacy@shayrapp.com.

Do you sell my data?

No. Our Privacy Policy covers what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have under GDPR, CCPA and similar laws.
