A category is wrong
Press and hold the transaction on Spend and pick the right category. It fixes every transaction from that merchant for your whole household.
Steps
Press and hold the transaction. In Change Category, tap the category you want. See Change a transaction's category.
Check Settings, Manage Category Rules to see your changes, and delete a rule if you want the bank's original category back.
Why it happens
Categories come from your bank's data, which labels merchants automatically and sometimes gets them wrong. Shayr also has its own list of merchants. Your own change always wins.
Where a change shows up
- Lists, Home and Insights use your rule right away.
- The rule also updates that merchant's transactions from the last 3 months, which is what budgets read.
- Spending patterns recalculate after a change.
- Budget groups use slightly different names than the Spend categories. For example Rent is under Rent and Dues in budgets, and Bills & Utilities in Spend.
If something goes wrong
The same shop appears under two names.
Change each spelling once.
A budget still counts it in the old category.
Budgets read the category stored on each transaction. Older transactions, and ones with a different spelling, may keep the old category.
